“Freedom”
The Christian worldview teaches that when God created the heavens and the earth, he also created spiritual beings that did not share in flesh and blood with us. However, like us, they were given the choice to submit to God’s authority, or rebel. Those that chose to rebel, we call enemies (‘satan’ simply means ‘enemy’). God has permitted them to remain in the earth for a time, to expose each of our hearts. Will we heed their voice and rebel along with them, or remain faithful to the Faithful God… the One who gives Himself freely to all who come to Him, and whose nearness is the most beautiful, comforting, Life-giving thing we could ever imagine. The enemy’s (only) tactic is to separate us from Him by pouring forth lies that mar His image in our mind. If he can get us to blame the Creator as our source of pain, he can then effortlessly unravel us entirely … lickety-split.
But what for the pain? Our culture has denied the light – and darkness is all it has left. God is the Healer, and He longs to restore. But wholeness is only given to those who are willing to risk all. To those who are brave enough to cast away from themselves their dark desires and practices – back to the places of darkness from which they came – and dive headfirst into the light – trusting that the deep longings of their souls were created for a purpose and can only be satisfied by their Creator.
“Return, O faithless children, and I will heal you!” (Jeremiah 3:22; Isaiah 31:6-7)
